And by popular demand

I received and email this morning with the greatest news. I'd like to say it isn't materialistic but world changing, however, that would be a lie. The popular Scottie dog scarf by Crumpet England is making a special comeback. Apparently there has been an epidemic of people emailing, and commenting on how much they love and want the scarf. I can't blame them, it is the cutest thing in the world. For us dog people, or kitchy people, this is the perfect accessory. I might have to dip into my savings in order to get my hands on this one.

A Delicious Time of Year

With the arrival of Easter in just over a week, hot cross buns are sitting on my shelf waiting to be devoured. As I am eating my delicious bun slathered in peanut butter, I think to myself: "What is the meaning of the cross on the bun?" Here I am, just trying to scarf down something before I delve into my last term essay and I am questioning something totally irrelevant. Now my source isn't exactly the best one, i.e. Wikipedia, but they do serve a somewhat valid history (which I found on my other Internet searches) Wikipedia says:
"In many historically Christian countries, buns are traditionally eaten hot or toasted on Good Friday, with the cross standing as a symbol of the Crucifixion. They are believed by some to pre-date Christianity, although the first recorded use of the term "hot cross bun" was not until 1733; it is believed that buns marked with a cross were eaten by Saxons in honour of the goddess Eostre (the cross is thought to have symbolized the four quarters of the moon); "Eostre" is probably the origin of the name "Easter". Others claim that the Greeks marked cakes with a cross, much earlier."
This makes sense, as they are generally served at Easter and Christmas. Two holidays based around Christianity and Christ. As I read on it said:
"According to cookery writer Elizabeth David, Protestant monarchs saw the buns as a dangerous hold- over of Catholic belief in England, being baked from the dough used in making the communion wafer. Protestant England attempted to ban the sale of the buns by bakers but they were too popular, and i nstead Elizabeth I passed a law permitting bakeries to sell them, but only at Easter and Christmas."
It's quite fascinating how one bun, with a certain aesthetic can have such a large effect on certain groups. Being in an English class based on literature in the Age of Elizabeth I we are learning quite heavily the issues between the Protestants and Catholic church. Well there you have it, the hot cross bun holds a great meaning and has been eaten every year for centuries. Who knew a food product could be so historical? Enjoy my fellow readers, as it is hard to find them anytime after Easter is done.

Keep Watch

Jewelry is one of my many weaknesses. I love everything from bracelets, to earrings, to rings. I enjoy wrapping myself in silver and gold, rope and metals. I love looking down at my wrists and looking at the layers of shiny strands that surround my small arms. I love the cheapest jewelry, to the most expensive. It all works for me. Another piece of jewelry I love, are watches. Just over a year ago, I purchased a round faced tortoise shell watch with gold accents. It wasn't the most expensive watch but it wasn't cheap either. I love it. Prior to this watch the only expensive one I owned was the thick leather cuff style that I got years ago and is in need of batteries. However, it was never the dressy watch you could wear with a dress, unless you are Avril Lavigne. The tortoise watch is slightly over sized, not too large but still classic looking. Recently I was patrolling the Internet, shopping, looking through my favourite sites. On the Michael Kors site I came across their square faced watches. Let me just say that I really love a nice square face watch, it reminds me of the countless amount of watches my dad has been given by his company over the years. I constantly try them on and wish that they were a wee bit smaller so I could wear one. Well here is the answer. These two were among my favourites but just as an overall statement, Michael Kors has some of the best watch options that exist. They are quite stunning on their own, but paired with their own accessories, well it's just perfect.

The Change Up

A good way to change up the go to sandal for the summer months, is to look into Toms shoes. Their collection boasts many different colours, styles and looks. From the classic flat, to wedge sandals, to lace ups. My current favourite are the crocheted toms. Possibly the perfect shoe for summer, especially in classic white. Pair it with shorts or dresses or even with a bikini for full coverage when walking from the dock back to the cottage.

Pajama Dressing

Another key trend is pajama dressing. Now, when I say pajama I do not mean your plaid stretchy pants that you wore to bed last night, or a baggy shirt and the tiniest shorts on Earth. I mean comfy, relaxed pants and barely there shirts. I wouldn't necessarily deem this office apparel (obviously depending where you work) but I would say that you could wear this out to do errands or as a day-to-day outfit option to remain extraordinarily comfortable. Here are two of my picks for a nice outfit. Pair these two with a simple flat or nice sandal and a light cardigan. Easy to wear and quite beautiful. This camisole is one of my favourites for the summer Wilfred by Aritzia collection. Camisole: Wilfred Silk Slip in Blush Floral and Pant: Wilfred Provence Pant in Femme

Men's Wear For The Ladies

Men's dressing. It can look sloppy not done well, but if worn correctly, it looks office chic. I can't stress enough how effortless these simply pieces look when worn with the right shoes and bag. Being a University student and quite observant, I watch what others wear and how they wear them on campus. Most of my female peers wear these looks casually with leggings and flats, which is still quite nice looking, but to give it that edge you need a heel and skinny jeans. Instead of describing how to piece it together, I will leave a little to the imagination with some images. Because I always seem to reference all clothing purchases to Aritzia, I will just continue. They offer the best styles at some really great prices. Wear this outfit with a pair of flats, for a more casual look and with a tall black or brown leather boot, or wedge heel, for a dressier office look. Dressing like a man, has never been more feminine or chic. Colouring is also important, if you don't want to be too blah in your choices, go for a blazer in a pastel pink, or a button up in a white.

Trends to Love

Clothing, to me, is not about the trend but about the way you look and feel wearing your clothes. Clothes should never wear you, you must wear the clothes. Cliche, right? Wrong. It's a fact. The reason why so many men and women feel insecure in their own skin (aside from insecurity about themselves, that's a psychology I do not want to delve into at the moment) is because they don't feel confident in how they look. The best part about trends is that it offers selections of "in" clothing to people who otherwise probably couldn't be creative enough to dress themselves in a stylish way. It shows the ones that do not know a thing about clothing what is in and what is not. I'm going to spend the next 20 minutes on two separate posts about two different trends that I love. The reasons? Simply because both live in the realm of comfort and freedom of space. And by space, I mean the space you need to live your day-to-day live in maximum movability clothing. Don't you hate when you reach that mid point of your day and you can't stand the feeling of clothes on your body? Well these two trends will aid that discomfort. Enjoy!

Short Shorts

Let me begin by saying that it is March. Last year at this time I am pretty sure it was still snowing and or raining. All I can say is that it was miserable and cold until about May. Everywhere you went you needed rain boots and an umbrella. I didn't get to venture out wearing a light weight jacket or even go sleeveless with sandals until the end of May. There I said it, I vented, I got it out. Come back to the present day. It is March 19 2012 and it is 20 degrees and with the sun it feels way warmer. Walking home I was sweating, my makeup felt like it was going to run off my face (sorry for the visual). On campus today there was an abundance of shorts, flip flops, and dresses. I know that weather is not a science but Wednesday it is supposed to be a high of 25 degrees and with humidity (which is always irrelevant, they should just include it in the temperature) 30 degrees. MARCH 19! Don't get me wrong I am definitely not complaining, I love this weather more than you would know. When I am trudging through a few feet of snow in the dead of winter, I imagine myself in shorts, wearing my birks and being sun burnt. When it got to 40 degrees Celsius last summer, I loved it. I may not have been able to breathe and the air was so thick with smog but I accept it. With that being said, I just happened to buy a pair of emerald green shorts on Friday night and I am kicking myself that I didn't bring them with me. I try not to buy into trend too much, as they are a trend and they go out of style. I always try to stick with more classic looks and pieces and buy small items in trendy colours and styles. The big thing right now is pastel and bright hues. I find both quite appropriate for spring and summer, as they are fresh and so are the two seasons. A great way to add the pastel/bright colours into your wardrobe this summer is through a dress and or shorts. Generally when it comes to those colours in the spring/summer months, they never go out of style. Here is a great option in terms of fun and functional shorts. J Brand: 1046 Short- Blue Bonnet

Eyebrows

I remember the first time I had my eyebrows done. Although I have fairer hair and my eyebrows aren't too dark, they are thick. As my mom always says: "You have your father's eyebrows". Now, you're thinking that isn't a compliment but an awful thing to say. I disagree. I actually love having thick and long eyebrows. Whereas my mom has translucent ones because they are so blonde, mine are reddy brown or 'auburn' (as they say). Now, don't fret, I don't have the unibrow or the askewed look that most guys wear, but rather nicely shaped eyebrows. With that being said, I love these young lady's looks with thicker eyebrows. I think they shape the face so nicely, they give a defining look that compliments the eyes and the hair perfectly. I don't think all eyebrows should be plucked and waxed so thin that they barely exist. On the contrary, I think this look is way more suitable and definitely natural looking.

today.

Today I feel like a dream. Like I am in a place where dreams come true, and inspiration meets me at every turn. Today I am hopeful for something new and watching the world around me with great anticipation. My nerves are at a breaking point, and I must channel it into a useful purpose. Today is about thinking into the unknown and what could be possible in the future of my life. Today is new and new can have so many different meanings.

Parisian styling

Anyone who knows me, knows how much I love France. I love Paris, Provence and the south. When I was younger and had the privilege to travel throughout France, I knew one day I would need to go back and experience it as an adult. Now, with more of an appreciation for fashion and style, I absolutely love Parisian looking blouses and jackets. Although it might seem cliche or a stereotype, this style definitely isn't. It's like how stripes are considered classic 'Coco Chanel". Aritzia, my favourite one-stop shop for all clothing, has come out with a range of blouses from long sleeves, to 3/4 length, tees and sleeveless in a two-toned Parisian look. My favourite is definitely the Cecil blouse but their are many different kinds. One thing is for sure, my next pay cheque is going towards one of these classic and ideal shirts. Dressed up or down, how could you go wrong? Clockwise from top left: T.Babaton Cecil Blouse in whitecap grey/black, Wilfred Marcel Blouse in birch/black, the T.Babaton Sabrina Blouse in peniche/whitecap grey and the T.Babaton Sleevless Sabrina Blouse in whitecap grey/black.
