Yesterday Toronto (and Canada) lost one of its most cherished political leaders. Jack Layton was and is a huge inspiration. He brought the NDP up from the ground and made them the official opposition in the last election. This was a man who stayed true to his people, to himself and spoke for those who could not. Although I didn't know him, it always felt like you did. He felt like that friend you could always count on and sadly he is gone. His strength and determination is boundless and radiates off of him. I was looking forward to the next four years and eventually seeing him as the next prime minister of Canada. You will be missed Jack and may you rest knowing how much of a difference you have made. Here is an excerpt from Jack Layton's letter to Canadians. "My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world."
